On April 30 2008, the Notice of Availability of a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Northern Integrated Supply Project (NISP) affecting Colorado's Cache la Poudre River was released.  Included in the Notice of Availability was an initial 90-day comment period on the Draft EIS, twice the minimum required comment period required under the National Environmental Policy Act. During the initial 90-day comment period, the US Army Corps of Engineers received numerous requests from American Whitewater and it's members and affiliate clubs, to extend the comment period for the Draft EIS and Section 404 Permit Application.  The 90-day comment period did not allow the public sufficient time to provide substantive comments on the 700 page Draft EIS, or its supporting documents.  With the new 45-day extension, the comment period for the largest reservoir project facing Colorado's Front Range closes September 13, 2008.
